Pardon My Genie was a children's comedy series produced by British ITV contractor Thames Television, and written by Bob Block who later created Rentaghost. The premise was that a magic genie appeared in present-day Britain, summoned by a young apprentice named Hal Adden, a pun that goes some way towards characterising the series. Various comical misunderstandings arise, primarily aimed at youngsters. Arthur White replaced Paddick for the second run of thirteen episodes. Throughout both series, Hal was played by Ellis Jones, with Roy Barraclough as his long-suffering boss, Mr Cobbledick. The first series of 13 episodes was released on DVD on 22 September 2009. The second series of 13 episodes was released on 1 July 2013.

An old bottle has found its way into the household of a modern family, which consists of a boy named Kan and his parents. A genie, Hakushon, and his daughter, Akubi, reside inside it. When Kan finds the bottle, he discovers that a sneeze summons Hakushon and he must grant the wish of whoever sneezed, while a yawn summons Akubi and she must do the same for whoever yawned. Getting wishes granted by either genie may not be a good thing, for Hakushon messes them up due to his own extreme clumsiness, while the more capable Akubi likes to cause mischief by twisting their words and meanings so that something bad happens.

Tournaments also took place in French-speaking communities outside Quebec, such as Saint Boniface, Manitoba. Reach for the Top is an English Canadian equivalent. After the end of the TV series the tournaments continued under the aegis of several regional school organizations. Recently, the show was started once more on Radio-Canada in a pan-Canadian format. This newer version is called "Génies en herbe: l'aventure" in which four teams travel around Canada to discover seven different cities. The quiz is then heavily oriented on the culture and history of the cities visited in the current episode. The four teams are the Maritimes, Ontario, Québec and the West of Canada.
